LHF: First, thank you so much for being our spotlight interview! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Mark: My name is Mark Holbert. I grew up locally in Palm Beach County. I moved to the Jupiter area after graduating from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I am a Certified Financial Planner with Raymond James & Associates in Palm Beach Gardens for over 20 years. I currently live Abacoa with my wife Natasha and son, Preston. I am involved in a number of community organization such as the Friends of Jupiter Beach, Leadership Palm Beach County, Jupiter Police Foundation, and coach many youth sports teams.
LHF: Where you always into personal fitness or how did you get started on your fitness journey?
Mark: I played baseball in college, so I have always been interested in the performance side of fitness. However, once we leave the realm of college sports we don’t dedicate as much time as we normally would to exercise and fitness. I finally decided to focus on my fitness again when an injury prevented me from being help prepare my friends and family as much as I wished I could, during a hurricane. Once the storm passed I started going to Loggerhead Fitness almost every morning to work towards getting back into shape. When I jokingly told some co-workers that I was going dress up as one of those mannequins you see in the Under Armor stores for Halloween, they told me I was too old and there was no way I would be able to do that. At that point I set out on a mission to see if I could prove them wrong.
LHF: How did you get involved with Loggerhead Fitness?
Mark: I’ve worked out at a number of gyms in the past and I tell everyone that Loggerhead Fitness Is the only one I feel like I can work on accomplishing all my fitness goals. There are plenty of options available to me to increase my strength, improve my functional fitness, or make progress towards fat loss. The trainers are very knowledgeable and willing to help and encourage you. However, the members are probably the greatest asset of the club. I notice and appreciate how much the members support and encourage each other to continue to improve. This positive Accountability is a good thing.
LHF: What are your favorite classes to attend? (If any) If not, what is your favorite type of workout?
Mark: I started getting functionally stronger in SGT or small group training. I used it to help develop a base for me to improve on. Now I mostly do a variety of exercises and I always enjoy experimenting with the machines and techniques.
LHF: How would you describe your progress since joining?
Mark: Over the past couple of years I’ve gradually lost over 40lbs, while at the same time continuing to do the things I want. More importantly, while I do eat better, I still eat a few of the fun things, albeit in moderation.
LHF: Do you have any motivational or inspiring quotes that you live by?
Mark: I always ask my young athletes, how does a Tiger eat an Elephant? The answer, one bite at a time. To make progress you have to reach numerous small goals in order to accomplish your main overall objective. It works just as well In fitness as It does life.
