Meet Loggerhead Fitness member Cindi Brown and her trainer Deb Borger. Cindi recently lost over 30 pounds and talks about her experience in this month’s human spotlight.
LHF: Hello Cindi and welcome! Can you tell me a little bit about your background, what brought you to Florida, or have you lived here your whole life?
Cindi: No, I’ve always wanted to live in Florida, but I wound up waiting for my daughter to graduate high school. Adfter she graduated high school we moved here that year.
LHF: Where did you move from?
Cindi: Long Island, from Commack, Long Island.
LHF: Can you tell us a little bit about your career and what it is that you do?
Cindi: I own a medical billing company for dentists, and I bill for the oral clients for people who have sleep apnea.
LHF: When did you first join Loggerhead and what attracted you to the gym?
Cindi: Well, I came to Loggerhead because I first tried Orange Theory Fitness. I walked out of there, and I couldn’t walk for a week [LAUGHS]. And everybody there was very young. It just wasn’t for me. So I went with my mother back to Orange Theory where we sat in the parking lot and my mother looked and said, yeah, everybody here is young. And look how fast they’re going. And she thought about this gym here. And we came here. Because my mother kept telling me that I was gaining weight. [LAUGHS]. And I needed to lose it. I mean, honestly, that was it, my mother. I knew I had gained weight, but I just didn’t see it.
LHF: So that’s what made you decide to get in the shape you are now?
Cindi: I was miserable [LAUGHS]. I hated the way I looked. I had problems looking at myself in the mirror. And I know that I was in shape years ago. I used to box and I used to run and I used to do everything and I was in great shape. I wanted to get back to that. And it’s taken a while to get back to the point where I feel
good about the way I look again.
LHF: That’s great! Has it been difficult or easier than you thought it would be? How has it had a positive effect on you?
Cindi: Well, it was difficult in the beginning because I couldn’t do half of the things that they wanted me to do. And then I also had major surgery about a month and a half after I started. After that I was out for six weeks recovering. So getting back into it after the surgery was a little difficult. Now it’s a lot easier. I got into the running that I love, I do 5Ks now.
LHF: Wow, that’s inspiring to hear!
Cindi: Yeah, My goal is to do the New York City Marathon eventually. In a year and a half, hopefully. That’s my goal.
DEB (trainer): She’s so determined, and she does her homework. She’ll eat healthy, she’ll do her cardio when she’s not with me. She’ll almost over trains sometimes. I have to tell her to back off [LAUGHS]. She’ll come in and say, “I ran this, I ran that, I did this,” and I’m like, “how do you have enough energy for me today?” But she does, she has such determination to meet her goals, pretty amazing.
LHF: Can you tell us something unique about you? Something interesting people might not know?
Cindi: Well I was a single parent, I started out as a single parent. I had my older daughter when I was 17 and never went on any public assistance and worked really hard at what I needed to do. Started my own business on my own with no money to do it. And I’m now able to support myself, put my daughter through college without any help. And I’ve been divorced twice, never getting married again [LAUGHS].
Deb: But she’s single and available!
LHF: Well it’s been great talking to you. Thank you for your time, and keep up the good work!
